Progress on the Maco 1927” office building: Cologne’s new heart is beating!
A lot is happening in Cologne! The construction of the new office building “Maco 1927” is progressing unstoppably. Only around 250 meters from the main train station, the former building, which was restored in 1949 after the destruction in the Second World War, is now undergoing extensive renovation. Art-Invest, the project development company responsible for this, plans to complete the entire area by the end of June 2026. The existing building, which has not been fundamentally renovated since 1974, has lost much of its old charm, which is why the facade was initially removed and the building gutted to make room for something new. Art-Invest describes the old walls as a “classic 70s appearance”.
The new office building will not only be visually enhanced, but also sustainably designed. The planned additional building will be built in wood, which ensures ecological efficiency and a harmonious appearance. Managing director Arne Hilbert emphasizes that the sustainable restoration of the existing building is the top priority, and so the old substance is combined with modern elements. In addition, planned uses will include inner-city workplaces and restaurants, which will further increase the attractiveness of the city center.
Modern facilities for everyone
The central location of the new office building is very convenient for Cologne residents. You can reach the main train station on foot in just ten minutes, and the “Ebertplatz” train stop with lines 12 and 15 is only 500 meters away. The design also includes a modern mobility concept. More than 150 parking spaces will be equipped with digital parking space management, and cyclists can look forward to e-bike charging stations, weather-protected parking areas, rental bike offers and a small workshop for repairs.
The project is part of a larger plan in which Cologne expects to have around 70,000 new residents by 2040. This brings with it numerous large-scale projects, including the new Cologne-Kreuzfeld district, where 3,000 residential units for 8,000 people are already planned. The Parkstadt Süd and the Deutzer Hafen are also in the starting blocks to improve the living space and jobs available in the cathedral city. These construction projects show that Cologne has a feeling for the needs of its citizens and is constantly developing to improve the quality of life.
A look into the future
With the addition of the “Maco 1927” floor, a new attic with a roof terrace will also be created, which promises a breathtaking view over Cologne. The combination of a modern office concept and attractive dining options will make the area around the main station an inviting and vibrant place for business travelers and Cologne residents. The city connects the past with the future and is committed to creating a livable, sustainable urban environment for everyone. It will be exciting to see what the next few months will bring!
