Schalke celebrates an important victory: 3-1 against Velbert in the fight for the top!
On October 25, 2025, there were some thrilling encounters in the Regionalliga West that once again captivated the fans. FC Schalke 04 sent a strong signal in the promotion battle with a 3-1 win against SSVg Velbert. Gerrit Wegkamp gave Schalke the lead in the 11th minute, but Robin Hilger equalized for Velbert just nine minutes later. After halftime, it was Tim-Justin Dietrich who scored again for Schalke in the 50th minute. In stoppage time, Peter Remmert brought the game to a close with his goal in the 90th + 4th minute.
What is particularly noteworthy is that Schalke was able to further extend its lead over Fortuna Köln, who won the derby against 1. FC Köln II 3-2. If Fortuna hadn't scored these important points, the pressure on the team would have increased enormously.
The Fortuna game started promisingly. Vleron Statovci scored 1-0 in the 6th minute. With a goal from Hamadi Al-Ghaddioui in the 49th minute, everything seemed clear for Cologne. But the tension remained high when Emin Kujovic missed a penalty in the 54th minute, which was saved by goalkeeper Lennart Winkler. Enzo Wirtz increased Fortuna's lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute, before Sargis Adamyan reduced the lead for Köln II in the 65th minute. However, the game took a dramatic turn when Fayssal Harchaoui was shown a red card in the 86th minute. Malek El Mala made it 3-2 shortly before the end, but Fortuna managed the narrow victory over time.

With these results, the table configuration in the Regionalliga West has changed once again. FC Gütersloh are still four points behind the top and urgently need to catch up if they want to stay in the promotion fight. Nevertheless, they have that in mind in the upcoming game against Sportfreunde Siegen. Here are the results of the other games:
