CDU politician Oliver Kehrl renounces his council mandate in Rodenkirchen
A resignation is causing a stir in Cologne's local politics: Oliver Kehrl, the newly elected city councilor for the Rodenkirchen IV electoral district, announced on October 24, 2025 that he would not take up his council mandate. Kehrl, who came second on the CDU list and won his constituency outright, expressed concerns about internal discontent within his party. “After the disappointing election results, an honest inventory would have been necessary, but that didn’t happen,” said Kehrl.
For him, his withdrawal is a question of personal credibility. "I don't feel any renewal within the party. That's why this step is unavoidable for me," explains the 48-year-old management consultant. At the same time, Kehrl would like to thank the voters in Rodenkirchen 4 for their trust and the good personal result.
The reasons for the resignation
The dissatisfaction in the Cologne CDU had already caused excitement before the election. Rumors that were circulating in the parliamentary groups about a lack of renewal and a breath of fresh air in the ranks now seem to be true. With his candidacy, Kehrl actually wanted to herald a departure in the party and overcome the stagnation of the last few years. Now the only thing left for him to do is to campaign for the interests of the citizens of Rodenkirchen within the party.
As a successor, Porzer becomes a CDU politician Werner Marx move into the committee. The seats in the Cologne Council continue to be hotly contested, especially after the local elections that took place on September 14, 2025.
Candidates and election results
In the Rodenkirchen district, a total of 13 candidates ran to succeed Mayor Henriette Reker. In the elections, the CDU emerged as the strongest force in the entire district with 25 percent of the vote, while the Greens and the SPD received 22.7 and 19 percent. These numbers reflect the distribution of votes in the council, which shows the CDU with a slight lead over the Greens and the SPD.

The next steps of the Cologne CDU could be decisive for the further political landscape of the cathedral city. But how will the party adapt to Kehrl's resignation and the current election results? It remains exciting.
