The DFB Cup match between FC Viktoria Köln and SC Paderborn was played in the Höhenberg Sportpark on August 17, 2025. However, hopes of a surprise were quickly dashed when Viktoria goalkeeper Dudu scored a momentous own goal in the 5th minute. After a back pass from Christoph Greger, the ball found its way into the net and gave the guests from Paderborn a 1-0 lead.
Adriano Grimaldi, the SC Paderborn striker, was the beneficiary of this unfortunate moment. He took advantage of the opportunity and made it 2-0 in the 8th minute after converting a cross from Raphael Obermair. Cologne showed a disappointing performance in the first half and could not withstand the pressure from Paderborn, which led to another goal in the 36th minute: Filip Bilbija converted a penalty after Florian Engelhardt committed a foul. The half-time score of 0:3 reflected the dominant performance of the guests.
Weak first half and brave new start
Coach Marian Wilhelm was forced to react with a triple substitution at halftime. This seemed to give the Viktoria Köln team new impetus. In the 59th minute, David Otto scored the first goal for Cologne and reduced the deficit to 1:3. The 5,409 spectators in the stadium clearly noticed the home team's improved play in the second half.
But despite the rebellion, it wasn't enough to turn things around. SC Paderborn played the game over time and secured their place in the next round of the DFB Cup with a final score of 3-1. The game was officiated by referee Storks from Velen, and the players had to deal with a total of six yellow cards, including two each for the players from Viktoria Köln and Paderborn.

Expectations for the team were high before the game, but this performance will bring a wave of criticism to the club.
