Cologne's summer events: music, celebrations and creative encounters!
The city of Cologne and its surroundings will be offering a variety of musical and social events in the coming days that appeal to both locals and visitors. Particularly noteworthy are the after-work gatherings and organ concerts, which will enliven the region's church circles. The “Eat & Greet” after-work meeting will take place on August 28, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at Diakonie Punkt Nippes. Everyone between the ages of 25 and 40 is warmly invited to spend a relaxing evening together. Participation is free, but registration is required. In the same breath, the Trinity Church invites you to an organ concert with Markus Karas on August 28, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. Listeners can look forward to an impressive program that includes masterpieces by Bach, Liszt, Franck and Messiaen. Admission is free, donations are requested.
Holidays in Bergisch Gladbach
A very special event awaits the people in Bergisch Gladbach, where the Evangelical church community is celebrating its 250th birthday on August 29, 2025. The opening service begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Church of Grace, followed by a reception. The following weekend, the community invites you to a lively community festival on August 30th, while a central festival service will take place on August 31st.
August 29th also has more to offer: in the St. Luke's Church in Porz there will be a “construction site snack with music” from 6 p.m. Guests can look forward to cold food, drinks and live music; Admission here is also free, but donations are very welcome.
Culture in the open air
Music enthusiasts shouldn't miss the Summerville Sisters' open-air concert on August 29th at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Kreuzkirche Buchheim in Cologne. The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and will last about an hour. The event takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and promises a great experience under the stars.
The reading with Boris von Heesen on August 30th at 5:00 p.m. in the Nathanael Church in Bilderstöckchen offers insights into current topics. Gender roles and transport policy are discussed in a relaxed atmosphere. Participation here is free and no registration is required.
Church services and music
August 31st is an exciting day for the Redeemer Church in Rodenkirchen, where an introductory service for the new pastors Gregor Wiebe and Simon Manderla will take place at 3:00 p.m. The celebration will be led by Superintendent Bernhard Seiger.
In addition, music lovers can look forward to Sunday music with the duo “focus baroque” in the Delling Evangelical Church at 5 p.m. A selection of baroque music by Vivaldi, Scarlatti and Bach will be performed. Admission is also free, although donations are welcome.
The cultural highlight continues on September 1st with the “Ritual Music” concert series in the Christ Church Cologne at 7:00 p.m. Maria de Alvear and the “hand werk” ensemble will enchant guests with their music; entry is free.
Last but not least, there will be a special evening with Köbes Underground in the Kulturkirche Köln on September 3rd at 8:00 p.m. The program “Loss mer singe” promises an entertaining end to the series. Tickets are available for 37 euros plus advance booking fee at www.kvstickets.com.
A special highlight of this time is the organ cycle “Summer! Organ”, which is organized by the church district cantor Jörg-Hannes Hahn in the Bad Cannstatt town church. From July 27th to August 31st, 2025, international concerts are on the program, with a clear focus on the works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Admission to the concerts is free and donations are requested, as stuttgart-evangelisch.de reports.
