Drug dealer arrested in Cologne-Mülheim: man cuts up bags!
A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Cologne-Mülheim on July 19, 2025. The 46-year-old man was seen by police cutting up small plastic bags in a group of people. There was a white powder next to him that suggested drugs. During the stop, police found small amounts of cocaine and crack cocaine in cellophane bags and plastic containers, as well as prescription drugs, suspected deal money, a touchscreen phone, a notebook, two knives, a pair of scissors and an irritant sprayer. Due to his previous history in connection with drug-related offenses, the suspect will now be brought before a judge, as t-online.de reports.
The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Frankfurter Strasse, at the corner of Elisabeth-Breuer-Strasse. When questioned by the officers, the man stated that he did not know that the powder they found was drugs. This sheds a shocking light on drug-related crime in the region, which remains at worrying levels despite an overall decline in crime. According to the Cologne crime statistics 2023, a total of 145,939 crimes were reported in Cologne and Leverkusen, around 4,000 fewer than in the previous year. However, violent crime continues to rise, with an average of 17 violent crimes per day and knife attacks at an all-time high. Within these worrying developments, drug gangs are particularly active and are showing increasing unrest, which is visible, among other things, in explosions and gunshots, according to [ksta.de](https://www.ksta.de/koeln/koelner- criminal statistics-2024-weniger-straftaten-aber-steigerde-violent-983653).
Drug crime in focus
Police have announced plans to increase their presence in hotspots to combat drug-related crime. This is happening not only in response to the increasing illegal trafficking activities, which can also be observed in marijuana and cocaine, but also in view of the constantly increasing acts of violence. A significant proportion of crimes were recorded particularly in Cologne city center and in Kalk, while minor crimes such as bicycle thefts are declining.
A new 10-point plan from the police, which includes, among other things, the establishment of no-gun zones, is trying to counteract the increase in crime. Observations in recent months show that younger males in particular are involved in violent confrontations - a trend that is causing great concern.
