Lola Weippert: New dating show FBoy Island” seduces on the dream beach!
The reality TV world in Germany is being expanded to include another exciting format: presenter Lola Weippert, known from the popular show “Temptation Island”, remains true to the genre and will present the new dating show “FBoy Island” on Prime Video. According to Radio Hochstift, the show will be filmed on a beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic and the premiere is planned for the fourth quarter of 2025. This means a breath of fresh air in the German entertainment scene, which is already characterized by numerous reality formats.
In "FBoy Island" three women are looking for their true love and have to assert themselves against a group of men who do not have uniform intentions. These are divided into “Nice Guys”, who are looking for serious relationships, and the so-called “FBoys”, who are just looking for the $100,000 prize money. A real challenge for women because they have to find out the honest intentions of men. Weippert noticed during filming that there was spark between some participants, which certainly creates additional tension.
A look at the format
The American original series “FBoy Island” first aired on HBO Max on July 29, 2021 and quickly became a television success. The creators of the show were able to secure several seasons at once and international adaptations followed in countries such as New Zealand and Australia. According to the show's structure, 24 male contestants — 12 "Nice Guys" and 12 "FBoys" — compete for the affection of women. Each episode includes dates, eliminations and contestant introductions. The female protagonists are therefore not just spectators, but also active decision-makers in this exciting format that addresses relationship conflicts and dynamics.
Reality TV has become firmly established in Germany and now makes up almost 40 percent of the programming on channels such as Sat.1, RTL and VOX. Formats such as “The Voice of Germany” or “Let’s Dance” are very popular. In 2023, an average of around 1.16 million people tuned in to “Let’s Dance”. The increasing interest is not only reflected in the ratings, but also shows the growing acceptance of reality formats in society.
Weippers on new paths
After her departure from RTL's "Temptation Island", Janin Ullmann will now take over the moderation of this popular show, while Weippert will address her target group in new ways. In addition to “FBoy Island”, she will also take part in a casting call for the ARD media library’s travel dating show “City of Love”. This means she stays firmly in the business and shows that she has a good knack for current trends.
Overall, the premiere of “FBoy Island” is further evidence of how well the reality format has become popular in the German media landscape. Viewers can be curious to see whether Weippert and her candidates will master the challenge of distinguishing between love and competition.
