Last Sunday, June 3, 2025, SSV Bornheim suffered a bitter 4-0 defeat in a duel against 1. FC Spich. On the field, the Bornheimers appeared to be clearly inferior to the opposing players and are now facing a critical situation in the Middle Rhine League. The 28th matchday was described as pointing the way, but for Bornheim it was anything but successful. This defeat marks the fourth defeat in the last five games, a worrying result for the team who failed to score for the third time in a row. Particularly bitter: Luca Fadel missed the best chance for Bornheim in the 20th minute.
SSV Spich took the lead when Lukas Püttmann struck in the 31st minute. After the break, Spich went one better with further goals from Kevin Suchy (59th minute), Fabian Kirst (63rd minute) and Fabian Welt (78th minute) and thus set the course for victory. A total of 250 spectators gathered in the stadium, who watched the event with sad faces.
A look at the competition
In the same league, the other teams enjoyed different results. SSV Homburg-Nümbrecht turned a 0-1 deficit against Spielvereinigung 1920 Köln-Flittard and ultimately won the game 3-1. Flittard took the lead in the 61st minute through Abderrahman Rabhi, but Robin Brummenbaum turned things around with two goals in the 71st and 90th minutes. The game attracted 125 spectators.
The performance of SC Borussia Lindenthal-Hohenlind, who dismantled FV Bad Honnef 5-0, was also impressive. Rene Eschmann was the star of the game with two goals in the 38th and 42nd minutes. The stadium was filled with 40 spectators and this performance was also one of the enjoyable moments of the weekend. SV Schlebusch won 2-1 against SC Rheinbach, while TuS 05 Oberpleis clearly triumphed 4-1 against DJK Südwest Köln.
Difficult situation for Bornheim
Given their current form, SSV Bornheim is under pressure because promotion to the Middle Rhine League could be in jeopardy at this rate. The next games absolutely have to deliver better results in order to maintain the chances of promotion.
