On Sunday, 1. FC Cologne celebrated once again ColognePride. In pouring rain, over 1.1 million people on the streets of Cologne showed that diversity and tolerance are very important in our society. The FC was part of the CSD parade for the eleventh time and marched with around 350 fans, members and employees in colorful outfits and rainbow accessories. “Diversity is our strength” was the club’s motto, which shone impressively.
The parade, which began at 11:30 a.m. on the Deutzer Bridge, led through the festively decorated city center and gave all participants a sense of community. With a lot of enthusiasm, the FC not only presented itself on the parade car, at car position 48, as a homage to the founding year of 1948, but also offered insights into blind football and diversity merch in its own arena. The prominent representatives on the car included FC President Werner Wolf, Vice President Carsten Wettich, Managing Director Philipp Türoff as well as players and coaches.
A strong symbol for equality
During the event, FC captain Timo Hübers emphasized the importance of the CSD for equality and acceptance. In this context, FC Cologne is a strong role model in German professional football that actively fights against discrimination and promotes social cohesion. On the occasion of the upcoming international weeks against racism, which will take place from March 17 to 30, 2025 take place, the club calls on people to take a clear position against racism.
This campaign will use the message "TOGETHER! STOP HATE. BE A TEAM." increasingly widespread. This initiative, which has been running since 2012 and is supported by the DFL, brings together over 36 professional clubs from the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga. The FC Foundation plays an active role in this by organizing projects that address issues such as diversity, fairness, hatred, violence and racism.
Live diversity in football
As part of the “LIVE as you are” campaign, 1. FC Köln regularly sets the tone for a discrimination-free society. The FC Stadium Academy will offer workshops to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion, and the topic of discrimination will also be on the agenda at the next home game against RB Leipzig. The FC is also committed to the area of inclusion, including through collaboration with the Rhineland Regional Association.
The LVR's inclusive grandstand offers space for 90 people with disabilities during carnival days. Such measures show that FC Cologne is firmly rooted in social interaction and lives the topics of diversity and respect in a very practical way. Not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch, the club has a good knack for carrying its messages into the world and helping to determine what is received in society.
With an all-round successful performance at the CSD and a clear commitment to diversity and integration, FC Cologne is sending a strong signal - for fans, players and the entire city.
