Cologne Kalk: New building project without a winner – three concepts in the running!
A lot is happening in Cologne Kalk: A new residential and office district is on the agenda! The ambitious planning, which is intended to take the existing Cologne arcades into account, is entering the next round. How ksta.de reported, the most recent meeting of the jury for the qualification process was more than exciting - there was no clear winner!
Markus Greitemann, the head of the building department, announced that three of the original four participating offices would remain in the race, while Bläser Jansen Partner from Dortmund with their “Strong Gassen” concept had dropped out of the competition. The New GbR architects from Cologne, Torsten Becker city planner from Frankfurt and AS+P Albert Speer also from Frankfurt are now there. The next jury meeting is planned in two months, and the suggestions from the remaining designs already promise exciting approaches for the new district.
Balanced planning for the district
The new district should not only offer living space. Around 108 apartments, both privately financed and publicly funded, will be built, supplemented by 56 senior apartments. A daycare center and office space for around 800 employees are also planned 24rhein.de emphasized. This helps to make the district more lively and family-friendly.
In addition, the existing Cologne Arcaden parking garage will be expanded. Even if the parking spaces are reduced from 1,800 to 1,550, the basic structures will remain intact. Part of the parking garage will be dismantled and green spaces will be created - a real improvement for the entire area.
Integration of historical elements
Particular attention is paid to the historic water tower, which will be integrated into the planning. This not only ensures that the new district has a charming character, but also shows that a respectful approach to history is important in modern construction projects.
The diagonal route between the Cologne Arcades and the adjacent Bürgerpark will also be retained. This connection is not only practical, but also improves accessibility and invites Cologne residents to explore the new district.
Parallel to these developments, the demand for modern commercial and office properties in Cologne is increasing dba-bau.com is reported. Projects like the Viva Agrippina or the Clouth Quarter show how diverse and innovative housing construction in the city is continuing to progress. Overall, the new building projects help to increase the quality of life in Cologne and have a lasting impact on the cityscape.
The current plans are a clear sign that Cologne is well on its way to developing in a future-oriented manner. Anyone who strolls through Kalk next time will certainly be able to experience the changes first hand in the coming years!
