Five suspects arrested in Cologne after brutal attack on security man
A serious incident shocked the Cologne night scene: On September 7th, a security employee was the victim of a brutal attack on his way to his car. A group of young men attacked him with kicks and punches, leaving him seriously injured. The attackers fled the scene after the crime, but the police didn't take long to ask. Thanks to the analysis of video recordings, investigators were able to quickly identify five suspects who are now in custody. This is what WDR reports.
In the following days, the police carried out searches in several districts of Cologne, particularly in Nippes and Müngersdorf. On September 12th and again on September 16th, 2025, several apartments were searched and arrest warrants were issued against two 19-year-olds who were arrested for attempted murder. Another arrest warrant against a 19-year-old was also executed. Two other suspects, 19 and 20 years old, finally turned themselves in to the police and the Cologne district court. Stern also emphasized that the incident is causing big waves, not only because of the brutality, but also because the background to the crime is currently still under investigation lie in the dark.

The investigation is still ongoing and the police are currently not releasing any further information about the motives or background to the crime. This uncertainty remains a concern for many in Cologne, especially given crime statistics that show that security in the city is an important issue for many citizens. Both the Cologne police and the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia work closely together to prevent such incidents and to stop the perpetrators.
