FrauenElv triumphs in the cup drama against Fortuna Cologne!

What an exciting start to the new season! The FrauenElv from Elversberg impressively prevailed against Fortuna Cologne in the first competitive game of the season. After an exciting duel that went to penalties, the players led by coach Dennis Bamberg were able to defeat the West Regional League team 4-2 and qualify for the first main round of the cup playoffs. A true crime thriller in the Betzentalstadion in St. Ingbert, where around 140 spectators watched the action while the nerve-wracking competition lasted over 120 minutes.

The SVE started strong and showed from the start that they were willing to leave the pitch as winners. But towards the end of the first half, Cologne took control and Svenja Streller gave Fortuna the lead with a precise shot in the 38th minute. After the half-time break, however, the FrauenElv found their strength again and presented a courageous performance. In the 85th minute it was Emily Klein who scored the deserved equalizer with a fantastic long-range shot.

Fight until the end

The second half was characterized by intense duels and dangerous set pieces on both sides. The situation became difficult for SVE in the 117th minute when Laureta Crnaveri was shown the red card with an emergency stop. A subsequent free kick from Fortuna hit the crossbar - luck was on the FrauenElv side. In the penalty shootout, newcomer Kanasa Takeshita demonstrated her outstanding goalscoring skills and saved two penalties, making her the hero of the day. Walker, Kirps, Andres and Wittling converted their shots confidently. The duel ended with a 4:2 for the SVE, which sent a clear signal.

Coach Dennis Bamberg praised his team's strength of character after the game. “The girls showed the heart that you need for games like this,” he said proudly. The draw for the first main round will take place on August 19th and the game will be played on September 27th or 28th. SVE failed to impress in a previous game against Fortuna Cologne, which took place in the Steka Cup, and had to struggle with a 0-0 draw, which they lost on penalties. Victory in the cup is all the sweeter.

A new challenge awaits

Now the players face another challenge. As the anticipation for the coming round grows, the fans and the team hope that they can show the form and fighting spirit in the next round too. The SVE line-up, which was strong both defensively and offensively, shows the potential that this team has:

position player
