WohneNRW-Tage 2025: 2.3 billion euros for new living space in NRW!
A lot is happening in public housing construction in North Rhine-Westphalia - and the well-being of the citizens is the focus! The “WohneNRW-Tage” will take place from August 27th to 29th, 2025 and will present a number of subsidized housing projects in the region. In keeping with the spirit of change, State Secretary Daniel Sieveke will visit various projects in cities such as Hagen, Remscheid, Cologne and Düsseldorf to give citizens and interested parties an insight into the diverse opportunities that public housing funding offers. So reported country.nrw from a historic high in residential construction and lively interest from investors.
The Ministry of Homeland, Municipal Affairs, Construction and Digitalization has made a whopping 2.3 billion euros available for public housing funding for 2025. This promises not only new, but also modern, barrier-free and climate protection-oriented residential locations. Minister Ina Scharrenbach emphasizes the continuation of the funding boom from 2024. Particular attention is paid to renewable energies, which will become mandatory: fossil boilers are no longer eligible for funding, while hybrid heating systems will continue to be funded. In this context the OWL company reports that 12,874 residential units were funded with 2.3 billion euros last year - a record!
Diverse projects in the region
The planned projects show how active the municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia are. A new building project is being implemented in Cologne in Ehrenfeld, which is intended to create 191 residential units, 152 of which will be subsidized. The funding amount here is an impressive 22.24 million euros. There are also exciting developments in other cities:
- Hagen: Spatenstich für einen seriellen Wohnungsbau mit 40 geförderten Einheiten (Fördersumme: 7,92 Millionen Euro).
 - Remscheid: Energetische Sanierung der Klimaschutzsiedlung „Alte Vömix“ mit 24 geförderten Einheiten (Fördersumme: 2,85 Millionen Euro).
 - Bergisch Gladbach: Mehrgenerationenwohnen mit 30 Wohneinheiten (Fördersumme: 3,8 Millionen Euro).
 - Münster: 128 Wohneinheiten auf einem ehemaligen Kasernengelände (Fördersumme: 23,2 Millionen Euro).
 - Bielefeld: 70 geförderte Wohnplätze für Auszubildende und Studierende (Fördersumme: 6,3 Millionen Euro).
 - Bonn: 55 geförderte Wohnungen auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen Grundschule (Fördersumme: 16,42 Millionen Euro).

Funding and future prospects
What's next with the funding? The funding guidelines will remain largely unchanged in 2025. This applies to both the approved rents and the interest rates. There is an initial interest rate of just 0.5 percent for new rental apartments, which can even drop to 0.0 percent in the first five years. Furthermore, a maximum reduction period of 40 years is offered for housing for trainees and students. Construction portal NRW also emphasizes that local approval authorities review and approve applications. For projects with over 70 funded units, early advice from the ministry is required. Every step is closely monitored so that the funding is used effectively.
In summary, it can be seen that North Rhine-Westphalia is well on its way to significantly improving the quality of living for all citizens. The WohneNRW Days offer the perfect platform to present innovation and diversity in housing construction. What's next? Stay tuned and experience the exciting developments in housing funding!
