Seven burglars caught in Cologne: police strike!
The Cologne police arrested seven suspected burglars over the weekend from October 31st to November 1st. In the districts of Holweide, Niehl and Neuehrenfeld, the operations were extremely successful based on information from witnesses and through secret observations by civilian investigators.
In Holweide, an attentive resident became aware of two suspicious women on Schlagbaumsweg on Friday afternoon. Her alertness was spot on because there were pry marks on her patio door. The police responded immediately and found the two 25-year-old women nearby. They not only had screwdrivers with them, but were also known for burglary crimes.
Arrests in Niehl
There was also another incident in Niehl on Friday evening. A resident on Amsterdam Street heard suspicious noises and spotted a man trying to break into a ground floor apartment while an accomplice served as guard. Both men, 37 and 38 years old, were able to escape, but were followed by a vigilant witness and finally caught by the police at a gas station.
Neuehrenfeld: Jewelry theft solved
On Saturday evening, the civil investigators were in demand in Neuehrenfeld. On Hans-Wild-Strasse they observed three suspicious people who were leaving an apartment building. During the subsequent inspection, it emerged that a break-in had occurred in a ground floor apartment. Two men, aged 30 and 37, were arrested while a third person escaped. Police found jewelry in the suspect's car that apparently came from the apartment. Investigations also revealed another attempted break-in in nearby Stuppstrasse, and the investigation is ongoing.
The rapid response of the police and the attention of the residents show once again how important a good neighborhood is. In times when burglaries are a recurring issue, it is important to be vigilant and, if in doubt, to call the police too often. The current operations are a clear indication that the police in Cologne are keeping a close eye on security in the districts.
The Cologne police will continue to fight tirelessly against crime, and with the support of citizens, more can certainly be achieved. As the events of the past few days show, there is definitely something going on here, and it is good to know that the security forces are standing by to protect citizens.
