Chorweiler shapes the future: clay modeling as a community project!
Art, community and democracy – these are the central themes that will be in the foreground on Thursday, September 4th in Chorweiler. Under the title “Chorweiler in Ton – Stories and Community in the District”, an exciting participatory project invites residents to take an active part in shaping their district. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., people will shape, model and exchange stories on the outside stairs to the side of Liverpooler Platz. The aim is to unite the past, present and dreams of the residents in one work of art by creating a clay model together. kirche-koeln.de reports that various local institutions, including the Melanchthon Academy of the Evangelical Church Association of Cologne, are acting as organizers.
Everyone is invited to help shape a piece of the district and contribute personal memories. The moderation team will help to accompany the modeling, document the narratives and create a safe space for exchange. This project aims to not only promote community, but also strengthen democratic participation. After the event, the collected stories will be published and exhibited. So much more than just clay is formed - connections and memories are created.
A space for creative development
Chorweiler is not only a venue for creative art projects, but also a place where intercultural encounters and social integration are the focus. The initiative behind “Chorweiler in Ton” is part of a larger network of art and cultural projects that specifically aim to include disadvantaged population groups. The FIZ Chorweiler offers low-threshold art and cultural offerings for various target groups and would like to help discover personal skills and strengths.
Socially isolated people, migrants and families of people with disabilities come together here. Access to art is made easier with various offers such as accompanied painting, excursions and public exhibitions. The aim is to strengthen self-efficacy and promote encounters. At a time when there is a risk of social isolation, such offers are invaluable.
Participatory art in public spaces
The concept of participatory art, as practiced in Chorweiler, has gained in importance since the 60s and 70s. kubi-online.de emphasizes that art in public spaces seeks direct dialogue with the population. Projects like “Chorweiler in Ton” not only enable aesthetic experiences, but also reflections on social issues such as migration, integration and the environment.
In a shared creative process, art becomes a tool for social change and democratic participation. Thursday's event will not only be a creative event, but also a platform to think about the future of Chorweiler. Open discussions and a review of the stories collected will provide the framework so that participants can actively participate in the development of their district.
Artistic creation in Chorweiler is closely linked to the idea of creating a space for people who are often not heard. The upcoming event offers a wonderful opportunity to get involved, share stories and develop a new artistic perspective on the district together.
