Important construction work in Rodenkirchen: Road closed for months!

From Monday there will be a lot of work in Cologne-Rodenkirchen. The road “Zum Forstbotanischer Garten” will be completely closed in both directions for several months. The reason for this is work on a new water transport pipeline, which will ensure the drinking water supply in the city. How day24 reports, RheinNetz GmbH is having this infrastructure measure carried out on behalf of RheinEnergie.

A section between “Militärringstraße” and “Friedrich-Ebert-Straße” is affected. For residents and road users, this means a diversion via “Friedrich-Ebert-Straße”, “Konrad-Adenauer-Straße” and “Militärringstraße”. At least the Marienburg golf course remains accessible despite the construction work. Pedestrians and cyclists can also pass through the area, which eases the restrictions somewhat. The plan is to maintain the closure until mid-October.

Closures and construction sites in Cologne

However, the closures at the “Zum Forstbotanischer Garten” are not the only construction sites that are currently keeping the city in suspense. Extensive work is also underway at other locations in Cologne. For example, construction work is underway on Aachener Straße in Weiden from June 12th to October 31st, 2025, which will also affect traffic flow. There will also be temporary closures on Aachener Straße/Liebermannstraße between June 30th and July 18th, 2025 stadt-koeln.de reports.

  • Aachener Straße (Müngersdorf): 16. Juni 2025 bis 8. August 2025, 09:00 bis 15:00 Uhr
  • Ackerstraße (Buchheim): 10. März 2025 bis 31. Juli 2025
  • Agrippinaufer (Neustadt-Süd): 21. August 2024 bis 15. August 2025
  • Am Leystapel (Altstadt/Süd): 12. November 2022 bis 31. Dezember 2025
  • Amsterdamer Straße (Niehl): 10. Juli 2025 bis 31. Juli 2025

But that's not all. Various construction sites are also active in other parts of the city and have been announced by the city administration. In Cologne-Kalk, for example, there is a partial closure of the Kalk tunnel, while in Ehrenfeld the induction loop at the Venloer Straße/Ehrenfeld belt traffic lights is planned to be replaced. These measures don't just last a few days, but rather extend over a period of several weeks koelner-newsjournal.de impressively demonstrated.

The city of Cologne has its hands full improving infrastructure and traffic routes. Residents and commuters in Cologne can therefore expect a patient period, as construction sites are often unavoidable in order to increase the quality of life in the city in the long term. The city administration recommends regularly checking current traffic information and planning alternative routes if necessary.
