New center Michaelshoven: District place should be larger and more lively!

A lot is happening in Cologne-Rodenkirchen: The “New Mitte Michaelshoven” takes shape and is intended to create a lively center in the Sürther field. The "Rodengrün" project is realized in an area of ​​about 2.7 hectares between Sürther Straße, Michaelshoven, Eygelshovener Straße and the comprehensive school Rodenkirchen. Around 300 apartments are created here, all of which are rented, as well as a drugstore, a food dealer, a pharmacy and even a small café.

There is special attention to the neighborhood place, which is to be enlarged by 130 square meters. This will be necessary in order to meet the needs of future users and residents, reports Cologne Stadt-Anzeiger . In order to implement this expansion, Eygelshovener Straße is also redesigned and a new roundabout is created. The citizens have already spoken out clearly for the enlargement of the square, and the local politicians have initiated an examination of this idea without provoking delays.

Early public participation, which plays an important role in such complex projects, was already completed in November. The results were recently presented by the investors and project developers Doetsch and Hellinger and urban planner Burkard Dewey. With the aim of creating an integrative and functional quarters, the construction of the new center is planned in two sections, starting on Sürther Straße. The first section is expected to be completed at the end of 2029 - provided everything goes according to plan. The development follows a new development plan that was necessary due to the previous uses.

Currently, the site is still partially used by "WISÜ" for the Bürgertreff X, which shows that the community is actively integrated into the planning and use of the room concept. An interim school for high school students from the new Rondorf high school is also housed on the site.
