Million dollar coup in Cologne: The mysterious robbery in Marienburg!
A shocking incident in Cologne, which has been stirring emotions for more than three years, is not taking a turn. On July 22, 2022, a cash-in-transit truck was robbed in Marienburg, with the perpetrators causing a stir with a brutal operation and heavy weaponry. According to Rundschau Online, a cell phone video shows that the masked men in green camouflage suits set fire to a previously stolen car and developed considerable speed while fleeing.
In this attack, which the Cologne public prosecutor's office attributes to organized crime, the perpetrators targeted a cash-in-transit vehicle belonging to the Prosegur company. On the morning of the attack, two vehicles slowed him down. Despite the massive threat - the perpetrators fired a total of 30 shots without stealing any money - the front window of the van remained stable. It is suspected that the perpetrators had inside information about the transport and route, which raises the disturbing question: who were these professionals?
Investigations and other incidents
The investigation into the attack is ongoing, but the Cologne public prosecutor's office is keeping a low profile and is not releasing any further information. It remains unclear how many people were involved and whether there is a connection to other criminal cases. Der Spiegel reports that a year after the incident there was a trail leading to Belgium, but it came to nothing. In December 2024, there was another raid attempt at the same point, which also failed.
Concerns about safety in the city are not just based on this incident. In July 2025, a cash-in-transit truck in Brühl had to escape a robbery when its driver acted quickly and accelerated. It is currently difficult to predict whether the perpetrators will be caught soon. There have been no arrests to date.
A look at organized crime
The attack on the cash-in-transit truck in Cologne is just one example of many that can be observed in Germany. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, organized crime is a complex phenomenon that includes structured, planned crimes and often has violence and power games in the background. A variety of crimes, from drugs to white-collar crime, are more often interwoven with international connections.
The fact that the identity of the perpetrators remains a mystery to this day is not exactly a good sign for the security situation. Residents and companies in Cologne are therefore hoping that investigators will provide clarification soon. The questions surrounding the attack and the possibility that a well-organized group could be behind the crimes cast a shadow over the city, which would like to regain more confidence in its security.
