Construction work in Cologne: Tunnels and streets closed from November 1st!

Traffic in Cologne will face some challenges in the coming days. From November 1st to 3rd, 2025 there will be diversions and closures at night as important structural inspections are carried out in the Universitätsstraße/Albertus-Magnus-Platz tunnel. These construction sites are part of a major redesign that began in November 2024 and will last until the end of March 2026. Four intersections on Weißer Straße in Cologne-Rodenkirchen will be rebuilt. Traffic lights are being dismantled and a new roundabout at the intersection with Hammerschmidtstrasse has already been completed. Current construction work and schedules

In addition, construction work will begin on November 3, 2025 at the intersection of Weißer Straße/Grimmelshausenstraße/Siegfriedstraße, which will be carried out in two phases. In the first section, the western side in the direction of Weiß will be provided with a traffic light regulation for vehicle traffic as a diversion until the end of January 2026. In the second phase, the eastern side in the direction of Rodenkirchen will be rebuilt, this will also be provided with traffic light regulations and the junction with Grimmelshausenstrasse will be closed.

The KVB stops will remain usable during construction work despite the relocations. Another focus is on the maintenance work in the Hercules Tunnel, which will take place on November 6th and 7th between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., with the middle and left lanes closed. The Rheinufertunnel is also undergoing inspections, where the middle and right lanes are not passable from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the same night.
