Rape attempt in Porz-Eil: Police hunt perpetrator with phantom image!
The Cologne police are called upon again because a sexual assault has shaken tempers in the Porz-Eil district. On August 15, 2024, an unknown man took advantage of the darkness in the “Gut Leidenhausen” forest area and forced a jogging woman there to perform sexual acts. The incident occurred between 7 and 8 a.m. and despite the serious nature of the act, now, more than a year later, a ghost image of the perpetrator has been released in an attempt to identify him. Various details about the crime and the perpetrator were revealed:
The police are calling on possible witnesses to contact them on 0221/229-0 or by email to poststelle.koeln@polizei.nrw.de. Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports that such incidents can significantly affect the population's sense of security.
Another attack in Westhoven
But it's not just in Porz-Eil that the authorities have to deal with sexual assaults. On August 1, 2024, a similar incident occurred in Westhoven when a 19-year-old girl was attacked early Sunday morning around 5 a.m. According to the police, the perpetrator, who is now also being searched for with a phantom image, was around 25 years old, had short blonde hair and was around 1.80 meters tall. His slim build and blue eyes were also described.
The sequence of events is reminiscent of the incident in Porz: The attacker approached the woman, pulled her to the ground and tried to pull down his pants. Only through courageous action - the victim bit the perpetrator's hand and screamed for help - could something worse be prevented. The perpetrator fled in an unknown direction. For information about this incident, the police have also set up the hotline 0221/229-0 Express.
Rising numbers and concerned citizens
The increasing number of sexual assaults in Germany is alarming. According to Statista, the statistics of recorded sexual crimes reached a peak in 2024 with around 128,000 cases. This increase is partly attributed to greater sensitivity and willingness to report crimes, although experts note that many crimes are never reported. The victims often feel too traumatized to dare to go to the police, for fear of accusations and the associated perpetrator-victim reversal.
The citizens of Cologne are understandably worried. Such attacks cause the feeling of security in one's own neighborhood to disappear. This makes information and tips that can help solve these crimes all the more important. Police rely on the public's cooperation to prevent such acts and bring perpetrators to justice.
