Porz invites you: Digital Day 2025 for seniors – technology made easy!

On Friday, May 27, 2025, a very special day will take place in the Porz district town hall: the Porz Digital Day 2025. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., seniors have the opportunity to experience digital technologies up close in a relaxed atmosphere. The day is all about digital participation and offers a varied program. Rhenish advertising papers reports that the event is an ideal forum for older people to engage with innovative devices and learn digital security.

Under the motto "Digital Democracy. Have a say. Help shape. Participate." Digital Day 2025 will be celebrated throughout Germany. This highlights the importance of digital participation for all groups in society. Younger people easily find access to digital technologies, while older people often need support so as not to lose touch. The need for help is enormous: a recent study shows that 85% of seniors want technical support, even though 87% use the Internet. Two thirds of the older generation do not have the opportunity to seek help from experts and often turn to their grandchildren to clarify technical questions. Digital Magazine supports this concern by showing that professional help is essential for an inclusive digital society.

A full schedule of events

The Digital Day in Porz offers a wide range of activities. Workshops and lectures deal with topics related to digital security and the use of everyday devices such as smartwatches or GPS helpers. Speaking of gadgets: Popular devices such as eReaders, smartphones and tablets are available to try out on site. The savings bank bus will also be on site to provide information about online banking, which, in addition to the test rides with the e-rickshaw from “Radeln ohne Alter”, makes for an even more appealing event. Over a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, participants can chat in a relaxed atmosphere and take their first steps into the digital world.

Particular attention is paid to the network “Porz digital – for seniors!”, which was launched by participants in the Round Table for Senior Work. The project aims to strengthen the digital participation of older people, which would be difficult to achieve without volunteer support. We are therefore looking for committed digital ambassadors who support older people with joy and team spirit. Free training is provided for this valuable activity. Digital opportunities offers a guide that not only supports older people, but also enables volunteers to better understand their needs.

Digital inclusion as a challenge

The challenges of digitalization for the older generation are diverse. Although there is access to digital technologies, support and the necessary confidence in one's own abilities are often crucial to using these technologies successfully. Digital Day 2025 in Porz represents an important opportunity to break down these barriers and promote a sense of community. Support and advice are essential to ensure that no one is excluded from the digital society due to a lack of technical knowledge. Digital participation should therefore be viewed as a fundamental right, as Deutsche Telekom promotes through its “Digital for All” initiative.

Porzer Digitaltag is therefore more than just an event; it is a step towards a more inclusive society in which all generations come together to support each other and conquer the digital world together.
