Escape from Cologne Clinic: Man uses a walk to the secret escape!

A serious incident occurred in Cologne: A 38-year-old man fled the forensic clinic in Cologne-Porz. Like Tag24 reported during an accompanied walk, which the authorities alerted.

The man who is accommodated in the execution of the measure based on a court decision is currently being actively sought by the Cologne police. A helicopter is also used to search the surroundings for the fleeting. The suspect has been registered as "desired" since Monday.

intelligence in Cologne-Porz

Forensic psychiatry Cologne-Porz is known for its strict security measures. With walls that are up to 5.50 meters high, as well as lattice bars and surveillance cameras, the safety of the furnishings is guaranteed. On the almost 14,000 square meter site, incapable of guilty and reduced culpable criminals are treated, such as the Forensic Clinic Cologne explained. The patients are accommodated here in accordance with Section 63 of the Criminal Code, whereby the goal of these measures is the return to society after adequate therapy.

Interestingly, mentally ill criminals are generally not to be classified as more dangerous than mentally healthy people. According to the DGPPN, certain diagnoses, especially in connection with substance abuse, can cause aggressive behavior. The public often has difficulties to understand the circumstances of these actions and their legal consequences, which leads to misinterpretations, such as the Notice.

Criticism of the intelligence enforcement

The intelligence of the measure is always under discussion. Many critics fear that patients will sometimes be “locked away” away for too long. According to a survey of 78 German clinics for the enforcement, overcrowding and inadequate equipment of the facilities are becoming increasingly problematic. In many clinics, therapies can often not be carried out due to the high number of patients, and more than 25% of patients spend over 10 years in these facilities.

The escape of the 38-year-old man not only raises questions about security within the clinic, but also illustrates how important continuous and qualified treatment for this vulnerable group is. In forensic psychiatry, work is constantly being made to improve the therapy results and to train the employees accordingly. The interdisciplinary teams that include doctors, psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers play a crucial role in this.

The Cologne police hope to find the fleeting as quickly as possible to restore security in the area. The events in the forensic clinic once again show how challenging the treatment and management of mentally ill criminals is and that there is a need for reform here.
