Pentecost in Cologne: The hits of African vocals and more awaited!
An exciting Pentecost weekend is just around the corner in Cologne and the surrounding area. The upcoming events promise a brilliant mix of music, culture and community. The focus is particularly on the a cappella group “African Vocals”, which not only entertains with its rousing performances from Namibia, but also conveys important social messages.
On June 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., visitors can look forward to an atmospheric performance in the Gnadenkirche Bergisch Gladbach. The group, which comes from the townships of Swakopmund, sees itself as ambassadors for Namibian culture. The singers, aged 20 to 35, talk about their life stories, which often revolve around topics such as poverty and disadvantage. Admission to this event is free, but donations are welcome to help the artists cover their costs and support social projects in their home communities. Kirche Köln reports that the group will also be performing in the Christ Church in Dellbrück on June 6th at 7:00 p.m. - this is their third guest performance in this church.
Another musical highlight
On the same evening, June 6, 2025, from 7:00 p.m., there will be an additional concert with Persian music in the Christ Church Cologne, which will be performed by talented musicians such as Nima Khoshravesh (setar, vocals), Poolad Torkamanrad (santur) and Katharina Hoffmann (cello, gheychak). Entrance fees are 15 euros, concessions 12 euros, and interested guests can reserve tickets by calling 01799746178.
But that's not enough! On June 8, 2025 at 7:30 p.m., Kordula Klabustra will provide further musical variety with her drag show “Do bin isch” in the Martin Luther Church in Hürth. Admission also costs 15 euros and tickets are available in advance.
Climate protection in focus
It's not just musically active, but also when it comes to environmental protection. From June 11th to July 1st, 2025, the Cologne Evangelical Church Association will take part in city cycling, a campaign that aims to collect kilometers for climate protection. The “kirche-köln-radelt” team invites everyone to register at www.stadtradeln.de and thus make a contribution to climate protection.
Another highlight that all music and culture lovers shouldn't miss is the 19th MitAfrika Festival, which takes place at the Chocolate Museum. This festival, organized by MAMA AFRIKA, offers a varied program with live world music, dance, theater and a colorful children's program. Artists from different parts of Africa, such as NINA OGOT from Kenya and OMAR JATTA from Gambia, will take the stage. There are also numerous workshops on the program that offer something for everyone. MitAfrika creates a space for intercultural exchange and understanding through music and dance, and the festival is financially supported by the city of Cologne.
There's really a lot on offer in Cologne these days! It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the local cultural scene while strengthening the community. Come along, experience the impressive performances of the African Vocals, and support the social projects that accompany these talented artists to Germany.
