CHIO Aachen 2025: Equestrian elite meets magical holidays!
In Aachen the saddles are ringing and the horseshoes are clattering: the CHIO Aachen, one of the largest international equestrian sports tournaments, will take place from June 27th to July 6th. Around 350,000 visitors are expected, who can look forward to a variety of competitions. There will also be live broadcasts from WDR and ARD, which will show the highlights of the tournament on stream and on television. [pferd-aktuell] reports over 90 hours of equestrian sport on the program.
Tuesday, July 1st in particular promises to be a highlight. Under the motto “Hola España”, the partner country Spain presents itself with flamenco, fiesta and a culinary delight of tapas. Pop star Alvaro Soler will perform at the opening ceremony broadcast on [WDR] from 8:15 p.m. - that's where the festival will really start!
An exciting competition
A week full of sport and anticipation awaits equestrian fans. The following days continue with exciting exams. For example, on Wednesday, July 2nd, the “Prize of Europe” will be held, a first show jumping competition that is often seen as an indicator of the favorites. Last year Richard Vogel emerged as the winner, where obstacles up to 1.60 meters high are on offer.
Thursday brings the thrilling Nations Cup, which will be fought under floodlights. The German riders, including Hans-Dieter Dreher and the talented Sophie Hinners, have a great chance of winning. In the following days, spectators can expect even more highlights: Friday is dedicated to the “RWE Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia”, including the second individual rider test with easy prize money of 200,000 euros.
Greatest finale
Saturday, July 5th, will take the breath away of both fans and athletes. The cross-country ride in the Soers becomes the highlight of the eventing competitions. Olympic champion Michael Jung is at the start, while record Olympian Isabell Werth shows what she can do in dressage. The WDR broadcast starts at 11 a.m. and you tune in for the show jumping at 3:15 p.m.
On Sunday, July 6th, the event will be celebrated with the Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle “Lindt Prize” and the crowning finale, the “Rolex Grand Prix”. An impressive one million euros in prize money awaits the winner. Last year André Thieme was able to win this top prize. The WDR broadcast begins at 1 p.m., while the gathering of nations reaches its climax at 7:30 p.m.
The CHIO Aachen is not just a sporting event, but a whole festival for the senses. In addition to over 360 riders and 650 horses, there is a big spectacle taking place, in which around 1,200 tournament employees and 230 exhibitors also have to ensure that things run smoothly. As [pferde.de] reports, there are 358,310,400 blades of grass at the main stadium ready to welcome the spectators - you just have to go there!
The CHIO Aachen is a must for all equestrian sports fans. Pack up your best memories and enjoy a week full of exciting competitions and a warm atmosphere! The excitement of international equestrian sports has never been so close!
