Impro Cologne: City tours with an acting twist starting soon!

Cologne's urban landscape will be enriched by an exciting attraction this summer: the innovative combination of city tour and improvisational theater by Improv Cologne. Lena Breuer, the founder of the theater of the same name, is behind this creative concept, which warmly welcomes not only Cologne residents but also tourists.

From July 20th to the end of August, the city walks take place every Sunday between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The meeting point is StudioA at Aachener Straße 65. And don't worry: if it rains, we will inform you in good time about a cancellation or an alternative program so that the fun doesn't end. Breuer and her 15-member ensemble offer a unique experience in which historical facts are transformed into vivid, improvised stories.

A look at the route

The tour leads, among other things, along the Hahnentor on Rudolfplatz, where a medieval scene is performed. Another stop is the impressive sculpture “Standing Traffic” by Wolf Vostell in the Belgian Quarter, which serves as inspiration for creative ideas. The walk becomes a lively exploration where history and theater flow together.

“We want to offer an alternative to traditional city tours,” explains Breuer. The concept is well received: the mix of knowledge transfer and entertaining performance inspires the participants. If you feel like doing something out of the ordinary, bring comfortable shoes and a drink and just get started!

The full program in summer

In addition to the city walks, the improv theater is also on the program: from July 30th to August 2nd, various improv shows can be seen at the Südbrücke every day between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Highlight formats include “La Kölsche Vita”, a humorous examination of love and the Kölsch culture, and “Love. An improvised romantic comedy”. An improv evening with favorite songs rounds off the offer. Tickets cost around 20 euros and are available on the Impro Cologne website.

Breuer has overcome numerous challenges since it was founded two years ago, including the dilapidated water supply and old power lines in its theater. Today, these problems have been resolved and the ensemble can offer performances in the highest quality. Nevertheless, Breuer has to fight passionately for her art: improvisational theater is currently not recognized as an art form in Germany and therefore does not receive any cultural funding.

The indoor season begins at the end of August and the courses are very popular. Cologne residents and guests can look forward to a rich cultural program that illuminates the city in a varied way. For all those who are still looking for further experiences in the cathedral city, there are also traditional city tours Always worth a look, whether underground exploration, night watchman tours or boat tours on the Rhine.
