Today, June 13th, 2025, there are several power disruptions in the cathedral city of Cologne. While the German power grid is generally considered to be stable and Cologne households only spend a few minutes without electricity each year, RheinNetz GmbH technicians are currently deployed at two locations in the city to resolve existing problems. But what exactly happened? According to News.de, some disruptions were reported in the city center and Porz districts, which were resolved at 1:20 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. the previous day could be.
The following areas were affected, among others:
- Mediapark, Köln (PLZ 50670)
- Theodor-Heuss-Ring, Köln (PLZ 50668)
- Danziger Straße, Köln (PLZ 51145)
- Hohenstaufenstraße, Köln (PLZ 51149)
It remains particularly uncertain whether these failures are related to RheinNetz's planned maintenance work. Some extensive renovation work is currently taking place in the city area, which may have led to the disruptions, as Rheinnetz reports on its website Rheinnetz.de.
Maintenance work in the south of Cologne
In order to cover the constant need for electricity, several large construction projects have been in full swing in Cologne in the last few weeks and months. For example, since June 2, 2025, RheinNetz GmbH has been renovating the main electricity supply ring in the south of Cologne. This work on Steinstrasse is scheduled to last until November 2025 and includes traffic measures that will result in a one-way street. However, pedestrians and cyclists can still pass.
But that's not the only project currently underway. From May 22, 2025, work will begin on a district heating network in the Hohenzollernring, while a new water transport pipeline system is being planned in Rodenkirchen, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2027.
