Lindenburg stop: Now Cologne University Hospital – For more orientation!
Something is happening on the rails in Cologne: Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG (KVB) has renamed the stop “Lindenburg/Universitätsklinik”. As of the timetable change on September 15, 2025, the stop will now be referred to as “Uniklinik Köln”. This renaming brings a breath of fresh air to the KVB's public relations work and is primarily intended to provide better orientation for passengers - a particularly important concern for people who are less familiar with the area.
But where does the old name “Lindenburg” come from? This is reminiscent of a country estate on whose grounds a “hospital” was built in the 19th century, which is now part of the renowned Cologne University Hospital. In discussions with the university clinic, it became clear that the old name was incomprehensible to many passers-by, which is why the renaming was widely welcomed. A spokesman for the KVB explained that the new name creates a clear connection to the institution and should thus pave the way for better comprehensibility.
Renaming and support from the KVB
There is also interesting news apart from the name change: The KVB is auctioning off one of the old stop signs to benefit the Cologne University Hospital. This not only attracts attention, but also shows KVB's commitment to the local community. In the last five years, a total of 21 stops have been renamed, which proves that there is continuous change in Cologne's transport policy.
Not only local Cologne residents benefit from the renaming, but also visitors.
