FC Köln starts through: training camp, test games and new hope!

New Year, new happiness - that is the motto for 1. FC Köln in the upcoming season preparation of the season 2024/25. The Billy goats are determined to get a strenuous summer structure behind and learn from the past difficulties. After a disappointing last season that culminated in the discharge of the coach Steffen Baumgart, a new course is now being taken with Gerhard Struber. The frame data for the preparation are now announced and promise a lot of tension.

The first activities of the new era start on June 24th when training in the Geißbockheim really starts. The performance diagnosis and medical examinations are at the top of the agenda before the first joint training session takes place on June 24th. A anticipation date for the fans is then available after the first training session: an autograph session is offered.

test games and training camp

It becomes particularly exciting with the various test games planned by FC. On July 12th, the first friendly game against the Oberligisten Bergisch Gladbach will be played in the Belkaw-Arena. There will also be several other encounters in advance, with 1. FC Köln immediately after training in Bad Waltersdorf, Austria, from July 21 to 28. Managing Director Christian Keller already stated that the framework conditions in the SPA Resort Styria are terrific.

Until the first competitive games in the DFB Cup against SSV Jahn Regensburg, which are on the program between August 15 and 18, there are still a few test games. The following points should be mentioned:

  • 29. June against VfL Rheingold in Cologne-Poll
  • 5. July against Sportfreunde Siegen in Siegen
  • 10. July against Union Nettetal in Nettetal
  • 13. July against Kickers Offenbach (place still open)
  • 19. July against VV St. Truiden in Euskirchen
  • 20. July against Viktoria Cologne in Cologne
  • 24. July against Swansea City in Bad Waltersdorf

The way up

The next Bundesliga season begins the following weekend after the cup games. The schedule will be released at the end of June and the anticipation is tangible. Many fans hope that squad planning will bring promising changes with the return of rental players such as Jonas Urbig and the planned adjustments. In test games that have already taken place, such as the 6-0 victory against the Sportfreunde, the first positive approaches under coach Struber have already been observed. Dejan Ljubicic, who shone on the right eighth position, and a compact defensive were praised.

It is all the more important to compensate for the departures, especially of Mark Uth and other injuries. Right now all eyes are on the transfer situation again, since due to the transfer lock of the squad, the squad has to do without additional external reinforcements.

The entire Cologne football community can therefore be curious to see how the billy goats will beat in the new season. In any case, the 1. FC Köln is ready to roll up your sleeves and to fight for the front places again in the coming season.
