Rescue workers on duty: missing man wanted in Lake Cologne!
In Cologne today, rescue workers worked for hours looking for a missing 22-year-old man in a lake. The search turned out to be difficult until midday and was initially unsuccessful, as the police and fire brigade announced. However, a 24-year-old woman was rescued from the Wassermannsee in the Vogelsang district early in the morning. She was severely hypothermic and had to be taken to the hospital. This woman informed the emergency services that there was another person in the water. A piece of clothing found on the bank confirmed the woman's statement.
Around 70 firefighters, DLRG helpers and members of other rescue organizations were involved in the large-scale search. Equipped with materials such as divers, dogs, a drone, a police helicopter and a sonar device, they went into the lake in full force. The fire brigade operation was ended at around 11:00 a.m. while police continue the search. It is still unclear why the two people went into the water in the dark, and it is also being investigated whether alcohol or drug consumption may have been involved. However, there is currently no evidence of foul play.

In such situations, it is often a challenge to both coordinate the emergency services and keep an eye on safety. David Kögler, an alpine police officer from Kleinwalsertal, has already experienced many of these emergencies, from accidents to missing persons cases. Such operations involve a certain amount of risk, as Kögler faced with his last alarm. His experience is invaluable in these critical moments when things often have to happen quickly.
The tragedy of these days shows how important it is to always be careful in the water and not to underestimate the dangers of alcohol and drugs. The rescue workers will continue to do everything they can to find missing people as quickly as possible and we hope for a positive turnaround in the current cases.
