The spectacular dance adventure Firmamento”: youthful dreams in space!
Today, June 16, 2025, the ensemble “La Veronal” is attracting all eyes in Cologne with their new performance “Firmamento”. Directed by Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau, audiences can expect a fascinating journey through time and space that explores life and evolution since the Big Bang. The show begins with hectic, twitching movements of six young people around elaborate electronic music equipment, which immediately causes goosebumps and anticipation.
In this exciting production, an older doll reflects on her life and the unfulfillability of some youthful dreams as she “flies” into the universe. This message that not all dreams of youth can be fully realized is contrasted with hope for future generations who still face great opportunities. “Life is always in motion,” is the central theme that runs through the emotional roller coaster ride of the performance and shows the different wishes and dreams of generations.
Visual and acoustic impressions
“Firmamento” also impresses with its creative visual elements. An impressive comic strip brings out the dimensions of the viewer's point of view. The overall work of art is reinforced with allusions to film classics such as “2001: A Space Odyssey”, “Apocalypse Now” and “Bladerunner”. A quote from Lewis Carroll, “It takes a lot of madness to be able to bear so much reality,” aptly sums up the complexity of what is happening.
The music comes from avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson and is accompanied by sound design by Juan Cristobal Saavedra. The performance, which lasts a total of 75 minutes, alternates between fast, energetic sequences and slow, thoughtful moments that address aging and adjustment. The stage design by Max Glaenzel and the costumes by Silvia Delagneau support the visionary direction of the production.
The master behind the choreography
Marcos Morau, a creative all-rounder from Valencia, is not only successful as a choreographer, but also has experience in the areas of photography and dramaturgy. He founded his own dance company “La Veronal” in 2005 and is known for his innovative concepts that fuse movement, emotion and characters. Morau is a fascinating artist who often takes inspiration from the Surrealism movement and inspirational figures such as Virginia Woolf and Francis Bacon. He has an insatiable curiosity and believes that dancing and traveling are closely linked.
His works continually challenge the boundaries of art by integrating various art forms such as fashion, visual art and film. And although Morau started out in Valencia as a ballet dancer, he quickly discovered that his strengths lay more in the area of choreography. With a fine sense of synchronicity and individual expression, he designs each performance in such a way that it remains in the memory of the dancers of “La Veronal” and their audience.
“Firmamento” is another testament to Morau’s ability to tell meaningful and moving stories that are both engaging and thought-provoking. From the imaginative giraffes of childhood to the complex themes of growing up, Morau manages to powerfully show that life is always in motion.
