Fast-paced chase in Cologne: 20-year-old falls after escaping!

On Monday evening, June 23rd, a 20-year-old motorcyclist in Cologne-Volkhoven-Weiler attempted a dangerous escape, which also kept the police on tenterhooks. The young man evaded a traffic stop and got behind the wheel of an unregistered motorcycle whose license plates were neither issued nor provided with the necessary seals. At 8:00 p.m. he ignored the stop signals of a motorcycle police officer and fled at speeds of up to 200 km/h along the federal highway 57 in the direction of Dortmund. Due to the massive danger to everyone involved, the police broke off the pursuit at the Niehl junction, as reported by ksta.de.

However, the story took an unexpected turn when, around 9 p.m., a concerned citizen reported via emergency call that he had observed a motorcyclist in Cologne-Fühlingen who apparently wanted to hide. The patrol cars were quickly on site and found the escapee, who again ignored the stop signals and tried to escape again. Only during another escape attempt at the Cologne-Worringen junction did everything go according to plan - the driver fell when he lost control of the motorcycle. Fortunately, the 20-year-old was uninjured, but the police seized the motorcycle and filed criminal charges for several offenses, including prohibited motor vehicle racing. His driver's license was confiscated.

Illegal street racing is on the rise

The problem of illegal street racing is becoming increasingly explosive in Cologne. There was another incident recently in which four young motorcyclists between the ages of 25 and 26 drove an illegal race on the military ring on Thursday evening - right in front of the police. After the switch to green, the drivers raced towards Lindenthal with their engines roaring loudly and reached speeds of over 180 km/h, even though the maximum permitted speed is 70 km/h. Here too, the police became aware and began a pursuit, which ended when the drivers had to stop at a red light. Among the drivers were two who were obviously under the influence of drugs; A rapid test revealed evidence of cannabis, which led to blood samples being ordered. This situation shows how street racing is not only risky, but also criminal, as tag24.de reports.

Prohibited street competitions are not only illegal, they also have serious consequences. According to the Criminal Code, both organizing and participating in such races are punishable by law and can be punished with fines, driving bans and even imprisonment. The consequences of accidents are particularly noteworthy: Depending on the severity of the danger, you can face up to five years in prison, especially if injuries or even deaths occur. The driver's license is also usually revoked, for at least six months, and in the worst case, civil claims can be brought by the victims. There is also the possibility of a medical-psychological examination (MPU), especially if you want to get your driving license back. Further information about these legal aspects can be found at mpu-fragen.net.

The incidents in Cologne clearly show that exciting feelings behind the wheel can quickly lead to a dangerous reality. It is hoped that road safety measures in the city will be strengthened to prevent such dangerous escape attempts and illegal racing. The police are called upon and those responsible in the city must urgently work on effective solutions.
