Simon Pesch no longer assistant coach: That's behind the separation!
Simon Pesch is no longer assistant coach at FC Hansa Rostock. This decision was made public on Sunday, May 25, 2025, after the victorious state cup final, in which the team clearly won 7-0 against SV Pastow. The reason for the separation are different opinions about the collaboration, which apparently did not harmonize optimally under the new head coach Daniel Brinkmann. Pesch, who previously worked as Bernd Hollerbach's right-hand man, wanted to take on more responsibility within the coaching team, but that didn't fit together in the eyes of those responsible.
Bernd Hollerbach signed Simon Pesch in the summer of 2024 after relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga. During their time together they achieved some successes, such as the two home wins against Rot-Weiss Essen and VfL Osnabrück. But after mixed results in the league, with only 10 points from 11 games, Hollerbach had to be relieved of his duties at the end of October 2024. During the transition period, Pesch and Marcus Rabenhorst took over the coaching team on an interim basis and were able to celebrate their first successes.
The perspective of those responsible
Sports director Amir Shapourzadeh emphasizes how essential a harmonious coaching team is for the club's success. The separation from Pesch, who could work in the youth sector and in the regional league until the beginning of 2025, raises questions among fans and experts. It also remains unclear whether Brinkmann's coaching team will receive reinforcements in the future.
Simon Pesch has already gained valuable experience in the past. Before his time in Rostock, he was, among other things, assistant coach at the Polish first division club Gornik Zabrze and assistant coach of the second team at FSV Mainz 05. He also gained experience at the fourth division club Alemannia Aachen. Pesch knows the mechanisms of a traditional club and has focused on the team's tactical and individual development of the players. These qualities are crucial in the role of assistant coach. According to the football portal Fussball-Hub, the assistant coach is not only the right hand of the main coach, but often also an important link between the coach and the team.
The look into the future
It remains to be seen how the situation at Hansa Rostock will develop. Pesch could reappear in the club in a different role, while the fans' focus is on the whereabouts and composition of the new coaching team. The club is facing an important phase in which stability and a successful performance on the pitch are urgently needed. Whether the desired goal of better cooperation with the new coaching team can be achieved remains to be seen in the coming weeks.
