Music in the Park” festival: Kölsch, sounds and children's fun in Fischenich!

Last weekend, Rosellenplatz in Fischenich experienced a true feast for the senses. The “Music in the Park” event attracted numerous visitors who were able to enjoy the musical performances in a beer garden atmosphere and a relaxed atmosphere. Organized by the KG Blau-Weiß Fischenich wind orchestra, the festival was an unforgettable highlight for young and old.

Mayor Dirk Breuer gave the symbolic starting signal for the festival with a hearty tapping of the barrel. Kölsch flowed after just three strong hits, laying the foundation for social gatherings. The wind orchestra under the direction of Gerd Außem offered a wide musical repertoire, ranging from traditional Bohemian tunes to well-known melodies by ABBA and Michael Jackson.

Music for all ages

The musical contributions were diverse and made the event a celebration for the whole family. In addition to the wind orchestra, trumpeter Matthias Jüttendonk appeared as a soloist with the piece “Trust in Music”. Lars Thieme played the sounds of the didgeridoo and presented a work composed especially for this ensemble. Martin Frings performed the powerful melodies of “Amazing Grace” and “Highland Cathedral” with the bagpipes.

A Catholic liturgy of the word, held by pastoral speaker Wigbert Spinrath and accompanied by a wind ensemble, rounded off the musical diversity. The “Hürth Brass” ensemble under the direction of Mike Pesch and the performances of the “Ballroom Sündikat” from Cologne, who played jazzy hits and popular music, ensured a varied program.

Family day with colorful offers

Sunday was all about family: family day began at 10 a.m. with a festive mass. In addition to further performances by the wind orchestra and the Hürth Brass Band, there were numerous children's activities, including a ball pit, wheel of fortune, face painting, a bouncy castle and many creative craft stations.

Physical well-being was also taken care of: cool drinks and food were offered on the drinks trolley and in a barbecue tent, while guests could enjoy homemade coffee and homemade cakes in the Kunos Music Café. The payment options ranged from cash payment to card payment to smartphone payment, so that everyone could find the right offer.

At the grand conclusion of the festival there was an impressive tattoo, in which the wind orchestra and the drum corps Grün-Weiß Bonn-Oberkassel von 1950 e.V. thrilled the audience. The crowning conclusion was the traditional “Steigerlied”, which for many was the highlight of the evening. Music in the Park not only provided a rich musical experience, but also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate community and make new friends.
