Drug raid in Cologne: 40,000 euros and LSD discovered in the underpants!
On Saturday, July 5th, there was a spectacular operation by the civilian officers from the Mülheim focus group in Cologne-Mülheim. During a traffic stop on the corner of Frankfurter Straße and Montanusstraße, a 27-year-old driver and his 35-year-old passenger were stopped, who were carrying several packages of illegal substances and a considerable amount of cash. In the car, the officers not only found LSD, cocaine and cannabis, but also several hundred euros in cash in a bag and another thousand euros in the driver's trouser pocket, as rheinische-anzeigenblaetter.de reported.
If that wasn't enough, the police discovered another amount of money during a search in the driver's custody, which was even hidden in his underpants. An ill-advised attempt to avoid detection that didn't help him. This subsequently led the investigators to search the 27-year-old's apartment in Hürth. What they found there was alarming: in addition to a blank pistol and brass knuckles, the picture emerged with large sums of cash and a variety of drugs, including MDMA and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Family ties and resistance
But it didn't just stop at the apartment in Hürth. The objects in the drug driver's family environment were also targeted. In an apartment in Cologne-Weiß, the officers came across a veritable accumulation of drugs and cash. Over 40,000 euros in cash had accumulated there, as well as ten bags of so-called “magic mushrooms” and other drugs such as cocaine and MDMA. These discoveries border on madness and show the deep-rooted problem of drug trafficking in the region.
The situation escalated during the searches when several family members resisted. This led to additional criminal charges. Ultimately, the 27-year-old, his 35-year-old partner and the driver's 59-year-old mother were arrested, as ksta.de reports.
Drug crime in focus
The previous events provide another insight into the worrying drug crime in Germany. According to Statista, around 347,000 drug crime cases were recorded by the police in 2023, which represents an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous year. Cannabis in particular remains a central aspect in this matter, as it often acts in the drug trafficking network along with other drugs such as MDMA and cocaine.
Drug-related crime is not only a challenge for the police, but also a major health and social problem. What is particularly worrying is the increase in drug deaths in Germany, which rose to around 2,230 in 2023. These developments call for rapid action and effective strategies to combat drug threats.
