Andreas Mies shortly before the big coup: semi-finals reached in Paris!

Cologne tennis professional Andreas Mies is on the verge of a big triumph at the French Open in Paris. On June 7, 2025, he reached the semifinals and is only two wins away from the title. Mies, who separated from his successful partner Kevin Krawietz last autumn, has reoriented himself and now plays alongside the Dutch player Matwé Middelkoop. He has experience as 23rd in the doubles world rankings.

The first games together in Paris couldn't have gone better: Mies and Middelkoop haven't lost a single set so far. In the quarterfinals they showed themselves strongly and defeated the number three seeded defending champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arvelado 7:6 (8:6), 6:1. It was on a knife's edge in the first set, but Mies and Middelkoop held their nerve and ultimately secured victory. Mies described the match as very close and emphasized that the game put a lot of pressure on the two at the end, especially when they had to serve for Rojer/Arvelado to win the set when the score was 5:4.

A new beginning after a failed partnership

The path to this success was not easy for Mies. The separation from Krawietz, with whom he won the French Open in 2019 and 2020, was a setback. Krawietz, who now plays with Tim Pütz, shared on Instagram that he looks back on many memories and hopes to only see Mies again in finals in the future. The pair's last tournament together ended bitterly in the semifinals of a Masters in Paris, where they missed the last ticket to the ATP Finals.

For Andreas Mies, the semi-finals in Paris are a great success, but the work is not done yet. On Thursday at 12:20 p.m. Mies and Middelkoop will meet the Belgian duo Joran Veilen and Sander Gille. “The job is not done yet,” said Mies, who also has his sights set on his third title in Paris.

Krawietz's new triumph

The further development of Krawietz, who surprisingly won the ATP Finals together with Pütz, also remains exciting. As number eight in the field, they reached the final and surprised the favored duo Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. Krawietz and Pütz received prize money of 728,500 US dollars for their magnificent performance in Turin. So it may be worthwhile for Krawietz to hold on to new partnerships and reorient himself.

The coming days promise a lot of excitement and show once again that anything is possible in tennis. All eyes are now on the semi-finals of the French Open, where Andreas Mies and Matwé Middelkoop see their chance for the title. Fans and supporters in Cologne are keeping their fingers crossed and looking to the future with hope.
