Rodenkirchen celebrates: New triumvirate brings carnival nights!

The anticipation for the hot phase of cleaning Cologne's old town is increasing, because the 2025/2026 carnival session is in full swing! In Rodenkirchen the follies that will represent the foolish people this season were presented. The designated triumvirate has the motto: "Ne Ossi, ne Bazi, ne kölsche Stropp. Dat Hätz op dä Zung, Fastelovend em Kopp" and brings a breath of fresh air into the carnival scene.

The triumvirate belongs to the Knobelbröders, who with eleven members are the smallest carnival society in Rodenkirchen. Prince André I (André Skibbe) is a 48-year-old police officer who has lived in Cologne since 1999. His wife Sina and their two children keep him busy during the crazy times. The designated virgin, Tanja (Bert Tobijnski), is 51 years old, originally from Rosenheim and is celebrating her 17th anniversary as a member of the Knobelbröder. Farmer Alex (Alexander Reimer), 43 years old, is a true Cologne native and works as a driving instructor. He also brings experience as a divorced father of a daughter.

It was originally planned that the triumvirate would compete in 2027 as part of the Knobelbrüder's 60th anniversary. But the events of the last few years have changed the plans: The Trifolium, which was supposed to be on stage for the 2021/2022 session, could not start due to Corona. We are all the more looking forward to the official opening of the Hofburg on November 13th in Rodenkirchen, Wilhelmstrasse 58.

Carnival for everyone

The prince proclamation will take place on November 15th in the Satory Halls at the costume meeting of the Carnival Society “The Rider”. The tickets are almost sold out, which shows that interest in the celebrations in the city remains high. So it remains exciting to see how the triumvirate will drive sparks of joy and happiness into the hearts of the people of Cologne. If you are interested in booking the trio, you can do so by calling Prinzenführer Christian Wergen or by email.

The roots of carnival as we know it today go back to 1822, when a group of “educated” gentlemen met in a Cologne restaurant to revive the old folk festival. In 1823, the Grosse Carnival Society (today: Die Grosse von 1823 KG e. V. Köln) was founded, which turned the versions of the foolish activities inside out. The first Rose Monday procession in Cologne took place on February 10, 1823 under the motto "Ascension to the throne of the Carneval hero" and set new standards for carnival culture.

Since then, Carnival in Cologne has been an integral part of the culture, with the festival being organized by the Kölner Karneval e. V. is managed. The long tradition of the festival is continued and the burning passion for the fifth season is celebrated every year.

The Knobelbrüder and their triumvirate not only represent a successful carnival session, but also the continuation of a deeply rooted tradition in Cologne. The carnivalists bring fresh enthusiasm and a good mood to the city, so that the anticipation for the coming celebrations can only grow.
