Zündorfbad remains closed due to a technical defect - discounts for swimmers!
There is currently a yawning emptiness in the Zündorfbad in Cologne, as the indoor pool and the popular four-season pool with slide are closed. The reason for this is a defect in the building management system: a control element for the pool water technology that is over 30 years old is currently causing trouble. “Safe operation is currently not possible for the indoor swimming pool,” confirms a spokeswoman for Kölnbäder GmbH. Fortunately, thanks to a technical bridge, the outdoor pool can continue to operate so that guests can still take the plunge into the cool water.
However, the failure poses a challenge. A spare part for the short-term repair has been ordered and should arrive in mid-July. But in the long term, those responsible will have to think about completely replacing the outdated technology. Replacing the entire building management system has a delivery time of four to six months, followed by installation and programming by a specialist company. It is expected that the entire pool will have to be closed for approximately eight weeks at the end of the year to carry out this work. This temporary closure follows maintenance already carried out from January to early March, during which ceiling and soundproofing work was carried out.
Discounts and special offers
The Zündorfbad remains a popular meeting place, also thanks to its extensive facilities. These include a 25-meter sports pool with five lanes, a separate non-swimmers' pool, a 3-meter diving tower and a diverse sauna area. The outdoor children's play area and various course offerings are also impressive. In the last reviews, reference was made to the cleanliness, the water temperature and the friendly staff, which is always important for the feeling of well-being in the bathroom. Many guests find their way to the indoor pool, especially on the warm bathing days on Saturday and Sunday.
Renovation work on the Wahnbad
While the closure of the Zündorfbad is causing discontent, one should not forget that the Wahnbad has also been closed since mid-December 2024. Extensive renovation work on multi-layer filters was carried out here. A defective filter in the swimmers' pool was replaced, and as a precaution, the filter in the teaching pool also received a new one. The Wahnbad is scheduled to open after the summer holidays.
Anyone planning a visit to the Zündorfbad can easily reach it by public transport - be it tram line 7 or bus 164. You can also stay active in the outdoor pool while the indoor pool is closed. Information about prices is available at koelnbaeder.de or by phone at 02203/18353-0. A visit is definitely worth it, even if there are currently certain restrictions.
It is essential for all swimming athletes to keep an eye on developments, because the Zündorfbad remains an important contact point for the region.
