Raid in Cologne: Drugs and weapons – dealer arrested!
Back from the summer break, the Cologne police show that they remain vigilant against drug-related crime in the city. On Tuesday afternoon, August 12th, the police hotspot team carried out a check in Vingst, during which a 31-year-old driver came into the officers' crosshairs. Not only was the man under the influence of cannabis and cocaine, but he also didn't have a driver's license. During this check, the police found around 12 grams of cocaine in his vehicle, which led the investigation to the trail of another 31-year-old man in Cologne-Neubrück, whose apartment was subsequently searched.
During this search, the officers found a considerable amount of drugs: around 700 grams of cannabis and almost 17 grams of cocaine. There was also an amount of money of over 10,600 euros in various currencies. A number of banned weapons were also discovered. No wonder that the alleged dealer was immediately arrested and is now waiting to appear before a judge. The driver will be prosecuted for his crimes, which range from driving under the influence of drugs to violations of the Narcotics Act. This is another sign of the police's ongoing efforts to curb drug-related crime in Cologne, as ksta.de reports.
Drug checks in the city center
The checks in Vingst are part of a larger police strategy to get the drug problem in Cologne under control. On Tuesday, July 8th, the Presence task force carried out extensive checks in the city's hotspots, such as Neumarkt, Josef-Haubrich-Hof and Fleischmengergasse. The officers encountered 30 to 40 people from the open narcotics scene. Dangerous confrontations were quickly stopped and several expulsions were given. Some people, including two men aged 34 and 30, tried in vain to escape and were charged with possession of heroin and crack cocaine.
Intensive controls were also carried out in the Eigelstein and Ebertplatz areas, with a 26-year-old suspect being caught after a robbery. In addition to crack and amphetamine, the police also found small amounts of cannabis and suspected deal money. All of this shows that the police in Cologne are not letting up and are continuously active in this area, as polizei.nrw reports.
Drug crime on the rise
But it's not just Cologne that is struggling with drug-related crime. Viewed on a broader level, the [BKA](https://www.bka.de/DE/ UnserAufstellen/Deliktsbereich/Rauschgiftkritik/rauschgiftkritik_node.html) describes the fight against organized drug crime as one of the central tasks. International organized crime benefits enormously from the illegal profits in the drug trade. The groups of perpetrators are not only involved in the classic drug trade, but also in violent crimes. Despite the investigators' successes, pressure from outside remains high, particularly in the cocaine trade.
The challenges are diverse: Synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances (NPS) pose an acute danger because they often pose health risks that many users do not recognize. The illegal drug trade on the Internet has also made it easier for gangs to distribute their products. The work of the police and the BKA therefore remains essential to ensure security in our cities and to decisively combat drug-related crime.
