Ford Transit: New electric variants and strong sales figures at a glance!
In an exciting development for the commercial vehicle industry, the Ford Transit plays a central role as it is now being produced as the basis for the new VW Transporter, which comes directly from Turkey. This partnership between Ford and VW aims to bring both brands' van models to market more efficiently through fruitful collaboration. Ford Pro, the new business area for vans, has become significantly more important. While sales of car models such as Fiesta and Mondeo are stagnating and will soon be discontinued, sales of vans are booming.
Fleet year 2024 saw a 53% decline in Ford Transit sales to just 3,100 units. Nevertheless, sales of the Ford Connect saw a remarkable increase of 125% to 2,800 units, while the Ford Courier reached almost 1,100 units. In Germany, the overall market for Ford Pro has reached a record 78,500 units, which promises optimistic prospects for the future.
The Ford Transit in detail
The Ford Transit has a robust design: there were 26,872 new registrations in the two-ton segment, which corresponds to an increase of 19%, while the Transit Custom in the one-ton class grew by an impressive 89.4% with 19,859 new registrations. Prices for the panel van start at 35,500 euros, the double cab costs from 40,700 euros, and the station wagon version from 41,050 euros. At least 44,400 euros are due for the Multicab variant.
The Ford Transit offers a variety of engines, ranging from 110 hp to 170 hp, as well as a 2.5-liter hybrid with 233 hp. The hybrid drive enables a maximum trailer load of up to 2,800 kg, while the three electric variants with 136, 218 and 285 hp impress as rear-wheel drive. The Transit also has various equipment lines, ranging from the “Mobile Office” package to the “Delivery Assist” package, which make the lives of drivers and delivery services much easier.
Electric and hybrid vehicles are on the rise
The environmentally friendly turnaround does not stop at Ford either: Ford is presenting the new E-Transit Custom, a fully electric minibus with a range of up to 380 kilometers according to WLTP. The battery capacity of 74 kWh comes from Ford's popular F-150 Lightning pickup model. The E-Transit also offers a useful power bank function, which makes it possible to supply tools and devices with energy on the go. With a charging power of up to 125 kW, the battery can be charged from 15 to 80 percent in just 41 minutes.
With these new developments, Ford is responding to the rapidly growing market for electric vehicles in Germany, whose sales are expected to be around 50.5 billion euros in 2025. The federal government has a goal of putting one million electric vehicles on the roads by 2030, supported by financial incentives and strict CO2 regulations. The growing interest in environmentally friendly alternatives is reflected in the rapidly growing demand for electric vehicles, which now number 2.3 million vehicles in Germany and 42 million worldwide.
In summary, the Ford Transit is a smart companion for city dwellers and businesses alike, driving into the future with innovative technologies and a range of environmentally friendly variants. Whether electric, hybrid or traditional – there is something for every need. The new models and strategic partnerships give hope that Ford and VW will continue to shape the field of commercial vehicles together.
