Artistic Insects: How Ise Reinterprets Dederich's Collectible Cups!

What’s new in Cologne? An exciting exhibition will soon delight the city's culture lovers. The artist Ise Dederichs will present her works with her series “The Last of Their Kind” between nostalgia and awareness of nature. It opens from July 29th SBK scale house its doors, followed by another vernissage in the Flora gatehouse on August 13th. Here the artist will stage nostalgic collector's cups with insects with her usual craftsmanship precision - a creative homage to the endangered creatures of our nature.

Dederichs, who moved from Hattingen to Cologne at the age of 17, has found her career from social education to theater management to the fine arts. Since 2019 she has focused entirely on painting. In her work she combines the delicate motifs of old collector's cups with insects such as flies, dragonflies and beetles, thereby creating an interesting connection to nature. “Insects are works of art of nature,” she explains. Her series of images represents an exciting connection between tradition and ecology.

Exhibitions and new works

The SBK Libra House will be on display with Dederichs’ works from July 29th to August 20th, while the Flora Gatehouse will attract art lovers from August 13th to August 18th. The vernissages are at 3 p.m. and everyone interested in art is warmly invited. On the occasion of her work, a series of exhibits entitled “Nostalgia in a Square” will also be exhibited, in which small-format oil paintings of collector's cups can be admired. These works show how the artist intertwines tradition and personal memories with modern themes.

In addition, Dederichs opened a new studio in Fort X on July 1st. From September 19th to 21st she will take part in the Open Ateliers and share her working methods and artistic processes with the audience. Painting itself brings Dederich great joy; it often depends on the light and prefers to work from midday until night.

A look outside the box

But it's not just Dederichs that is part of the lively art scene in Cologne. How kunst.lokal-koeln.com reports, the artist Ulla Zacher has recently shown interesting works that deal with the flora of her homeland. Both artists, who independently discovered oil painting of the Old Masters under the guidance of Bernd Finkenwirth, are an excellent example of what the Cologne art scene has to offer.

The city of Cologne is a center for creative minds. With events like that Art Cologne or the DC Open Gallery, it attracts artists and art lovers from all corners of the world. The diversity and liveliness of this scene show how important art is for the cultural life of a city.
