The flying BMX heroes conquer Cologne: The event of the year!

The Cologne BMX scene is celebrating a big anniversary! At the BMX Cologne 2025, the oldest BMX freestyle event in the world, numerous enthusiastic athletes and spectators came together on July 4th and 5th, 2025. This year's motto “CELEBRATING BMX” attracted young and old to the North Brigade Skatepark on Scheibenstrasse, where the first Cologne BMX World Championships took place in 1994.

The event was first held in the youth park in 1984, and from 1996 to 2019 the youth park became the hotbed of BMX sport, and the event became the largest of its kind in the world. But since last year, the new location on Scheibenstraße has been the main arena for optimizing the infrastructure and keeping costs under control. Organizer Stephan Prantl, active in BMX sport since 1981, is optimistic about the future and loves the creative freedom that this sport offers.

An event for everyone

The 41st edition of the event showcased the impressive skills of talented athletes on Saturday. 12-year-old Yuudai from Japan, who lives in Düsseldorf, was very happy about his participation and praised the great facility that gave him the opportunity to try out his sport. Australian BMX professional Josh Dove also visited Cologne for the second time and expressed his praise for the event and the city.

The encounter between 8-year-old Cologne native Jack and Josh Dove was particularly heartwarming. Jack had his BMX bike autographed and has enjoyed riding for two years. The fun and community in BMX sport was also emphasized by Adrian Warnken, a 33-year-old street professional from Düsseldorf.

The competitions

The competitions took place in an exciting jam format and included disciplines such as bowl, street and the highest aerial jump BMX Cologne. One of the participating athletes was Paul Thölen, the reigning German champion since 2005, who praised the relaxed atmosphere in Weidenpesch. Another highlight was 14-year-old Gino from the Netherlands, who surprised the audience with an impressive backflip—a great achievement for an athlete who started at the age of four.

The variety of classes, ranging from Rookie Boys & Girls to Pro Boys & Girls, offered something for everyone. Entry on Friday was free and attracted many BMX enthusiasts, while on Saturday there was only a small entry fee of 12.50 euros for adults. Children under 100 cm were even able to experience the event free of charge.

In summary, that offered BMX Cologne 2025 a successful weekend full of adrenaline-charged competitions, an exuberant community atmosphere and a lot of passion from the entire team. The mix of professional athletes and talented young riders also created an exciting atmosphere - the popular BMX sport continues to be celebrated in Cologne!
