Construction work on the inner channel road: 10 days closure for bridge!

In the coming time, the Cologne residents will have to adapt to some structural changes in the inner channel road. Deutsche Bahn has announced that the bridge on the inner canal road between Krefelder Straße and Hornstrasse. The construction work begins on July 18 and should be completed by August 29. For a good week, specifically from August 8th to 18th, the road is closed to safely raise the new bridge. The old bridge, also known as the Cologne as a "idiot bridge", has already caused recurring problems, especially for trucks, due to its restricted passage height. However, the construction work also has an impact on rail traffic: it will be necessary to replace trains between the main train station and the Geldernstraße/Parkgürtel stop. The same applies partly to the Frankfurter Straße and Porz-Wahn section. In the first construction phase, which lies between July 18 and August 8, there will be partial failures of the S 6, S 12 and RB 25 during the nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

When we look at the details of the construction work, we see that during the main phase from August 8 (9 p.m.) by August 29 (8 a.m.), the S-Bahn S 6 will actually fail between Mülheim and Worringen. The S 11 is diverted towards Düsseldorf, with stopping on the Hansaring and Nippes. The S 11 remains unchanged towards Bergisch Gladbach. For the affected passengers, replacement traffic with buses between Cologne Central Station and Geldernstrasse/Parkgürtel will be set up. It is particularly worth mentioning that the Cologne Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) also carry out construction work on line 15, which brings additional challenges for commuters to Chorweiler.
