Cologne running hero: 147 kilometers for women's shelter and 2,600 euros in donations!

A run for a good cause took place last weekend at the picturesque Decksteiner Weiher, where Robin Pfleger from Cologne completed an incredible 147 kilometers in 22 hours. His goal? To collect money for the Cologne Women's Shelter, an institution that supports women in need. This is reported by the Cologne City Gazette.

The fundraiser started on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Inspired by a unique Backyard Ultra competition from the USA, in which participants run laps of 6,706 kilometers every 24 hours, Pfleger achieved a personal record performance. With the support of his friends, who set up an aid station and cheered him on, the first few hours passed like a breeze. But things got really exciting at night: between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. a thunderstorm forced him to stop early.

For a good cause

The motivation behind this ambitious project is clear: Pfleger wants to use his running to draw attention to the important work of the Cologne women's shelter. So far, 2,600 euros have been raised via a transfer link, with the goal of reaching 3,000 euros by the end of the fundraising campaign. The amounts collected flow directly to the supporting association Frau Hilfe Frauen, which campaigns for the rights and protection of women in difficult life situations.

Pfleger has an exciting experience behind him, after all, he had previously collected 60 euros for a charity campaign at an ultra marathon, where he was happy to receive 60 euros. He is also proud of his performance in the current run, which is the first time he has achieved this height. Next week he plans to present a symbolic check and learn more about the day-to-day work of the women's shelter.

The importance of fundraising runs

Fundraising runs like the one conducted by Pfleger are more in demand than ever these days. Not only are they a great way to raise money for charity, but also to raise awareness for various social causes. There are numerous examples like this around the world ZeroHungerRun in Bonn, which addresses hunger and need in crisis areas.

The way a classic charity run works is very simple: After registering, participants run a predetermined route, while parts of the entry fees and collected donations go to charitable organizations. This not only promotes community cohesion, but also offers people of all ages the opportunity to become active and socially involved - an aspect that is of great importance in the current situation.

Whether warming up together or crossing the finish line, the community is significantly strengthened through such running events. It remains to be hoped that Robin Pfleger's fundraising run will not only remain a one-off event, but will also inspire others to support the good causes.
