Bach Festival in Cologne: Music and dialogues in the heart of the city!

An exciting weekend for music lovers is coming to Cologne! From October 31st to November 2nd, 2025, the Musikforum e. V. for this year’s Bach Festival “Dialogues”. This is all about the fascinating musical conversations of Johann Sebastian Bach, which can not only be heard but also experienced. With events at three different venues, the festival will be a real highlight in Cologne's cultural calendar Church Cologne reported.

On the first evening, October 31st, the Friedenskirche in Cologne-Mülheim opens its doors. At 8 p.m., Christoph Bossert will delight the audience with his “Bach Portrait in Words and Sound.” Before the concert, a Reformation Day service begins at 7 p.m., where the music will conquer the hearts of visitors from 7:45 p.m. Bossert, a renowned organist and college professor, brings his deep knowledge of Bach's works to this evening and ensures an unconventional selection of compositions brought to the stage.

The program in detail

The following day, November 1st, begins at 5 p.m. with a lecture by Christoph Bossert in the same church. The topic of the lecture, “Portrait of Bach and its reference to the invisible,” promises exciting insights into Bach’s world, accompanied by sensitive organ music. The evening is all about choral music. Here, the Chorus Musicus Köln, under the direction of Christoph Spering, will perform Bach's motets and organ works, a combination that shows how Bach's music embodies dialogic elements.

On November 2nd it continues at the Museum of Applied Arts. From 5 to 6:15 p.m. Christine Schornsheim will give a harpsichord concert in which she will draw a comparison between Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer's compositions and Bach's famous “Well-Tempered Clavier”. At 7 p.m., listeners can expect the final concert in the Trinity Church. The “Dialogue Cantatas” will be performed here, with the talented soprano Marie Luise Werneburg as well as the baritone Thomas E. Bauer and the New Orchestra under the direction of Christoph Spering. This performance will certainly be a worthy culmination of the festival.
