E-scooter driver flees after serious accident with 88-year-old in Neubrück!

On Monday afternoon, June 2, 2025, there was an unfortunate traffic accident on the market square in the Neubrück district of Cologne in which an 88-year-old senior citizen was injured. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. when a suspected teenage e-scooter driver hit the senior citizen with his e-scooter. The consequences were serious: the elderly woman suffered a fractured femur and is currently being treated in a clinic. How ksta.de reported, the driver briefly made sure that passers-by were helping the injured woman before continuing his journey without leaving his personal details.

The Cologne police are now looking for the fugitive driver who was traveling in the area around the market square. Witnesses who may be able to provide information about the e-scooter driver are asked to contact Traffic Commissioner 2 on 0221 229-0 or by email to poststelle.koeln@polizei.nrw.de. It remains to be hoped that witnesses will come forward and help clarify the incident.

E-scooters have become increasingly popular since they were approved for use on roads in Germany on June 15, 2019. In major German cities they are an integral part of the street scene. The tragic accident in Neubrück once again draws attention to the safety situation in road traffic. E-scooter drivers and other road users are urged to act responsibly to avoid such accidents. There is no such thing as “playing with risk” in road traffic; there is something to be said for it – after all, the well-being of everyone is in our hands.

The Cologne police are hoping for numerous tips from witnesses in order to locate the fugitive and prevent further incidents.
