Drug scanner & weapon alarm: Police catch 21-year-old in Cologne-Kalk!

An incident in Cologne-Kalk recently attracted the attention of the police. On June 16, 2025, the Kalk focal point team arrested a 21-year-old man near a kiosk. This happened around 7:45 p.m. when the officers discovered a loaded Glock 19 with a magazine and several full-metal bullets in his shoulder bag during a check. A complex weapons situation that did not go unnoticed, as the man was already known to the police in the past for violating the Explosives Act.  ksta.de reports that the search of his father's kiosk, which is directly related, did not reveal any further abnormalities.

But the matter did not stop with the weapon. During a search of the arrested man's apartment, investigators also found testosterone, which led to a complaint for violations of the Medicines Act and the Anti-Doping Act. It is clear that the issues of drug and gun crime are not new in Cologne. Statista points out that around 347,000 drug crime cases were recorded across Germany in 2023, while cannabis remains the most common substance.

Drug situation in Cologne

Drug crime is a serious problem that can be observed not only in Cologne, but also nationwide. The use of illegal drugs poses a serious health risk, and the number of drug-related deaths rose to approximately 2,230 in 2023. Cases arise again and again in which drugs are offered in large quantities, often accompanied by armed conflicts. ksta.de also reports on further checks in Cologne in which several drug dealers were busted, which indicates that the police urgently need to stay on the ball in order to keep the situation under control.

Another incident that illustrates the complexity of the security situation in Cologne occurred on Würzburger Straße, where a one-hand knife was seized during a check. This led to a criminal complaint for a violation of the weapons law. When checking a vehicle on Rolshover Street, a 21-year-old driver presented himself with an Iraqi driving license, but he did not have a valid EU driving license and his vehicle was not insured.

Police control measures

The Cologne police carry out regular checks to control the drug and weapon situation in the city. A total of 66 people were checked around the Stadtgarten and Wiener Platz in a very short time and four threats were addressed. Among other things, civilian forces seized cannabis sales units and investigated suspected drug dealers. Around 40 identity checks were also carried out in the city center, during which narcotics were confiscated and various criminal charges were filed, for example for drug trafficking.

The security situation in Cologne requires an open ear and quick measures. The police plan to continue to decisively counteract the increasing trend of drug-related crime and gun possession. The North Rhine-Westphalia police offers information and support for all gun law concerns to ensure safety in the city.
