On August 15, 2025, Cologne will have a new summer highlight: the pop-up beer garden “Sonnendeck Colonia” opened its doors in the Mediapark. The cozy place is run by Björn Lindert and Marcel Beyersdorf, a well-rehearsed gastro team from Cooking and More. With a fantastic view of the local lake, the beer garden invites you to enjoy the warm summer evenings in a relaxed atmosphere.

Visitors will find comfortable furnishings here, including deck chairs, benches, sun protection and an inviting counter. The range of drinks is varied and extends from the classic Kölsch for 2.40 euros to spritz drinks such as Aperol and Limoncello to special creations such as the Pink Gin with Gaffels Fassbrause Grapefruit, which is available for 7.11 euros. There's also a lot going on in terms of cuisine: the menu includes pinsa from 8.90 euros, tarte flambée from 9.90 euros and a selection of vegan and savory snacks.

Special events and opening times

A very special highlight are the themed weekends included in the “Sonnendeck Colonia” program. Bratwurst Day is celebrated on August 16th, followed by a Spanish gourmet event on August 29th with Lemon Day, including cocktail-like lemon and limoncello promotions. The first days of September promise a lot of fun: on the weekend of September 6th and 7th there will be a beer pong tournament and a “Schnick Schnack Gulch” event that encourage guests to take part.

The opening times are flexible and offer the opportunity to visit the beer garden during the best time of the day: on Thursdays and Fridays the beer garden is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. And best of all: Entry to the “Sonnendeck Colonia” is free – a welcome opportunity for everyone who likes to get together socially.
