Deutz 05 experienced a shocking defeat: 0:9 in the Middle Rhine Cup!

What a bitter blow for the Deutz 05 sports association! In the Middle Rhine Cup, the team suffered a tough defeat against Eintracht Hohkeppel. The Regionalliga relegated team gave the Deutzers no chance at 9:0 (3:0) and thus ensured the clearest result in the first round. Coach Ali Meybodi spoke of a “humiliation” after the game and admitted he could not remember a similar defeat. He had experienced a 1:7 in the past, but that was a different caliber and he considered it lucky at the time.

In his analysis, Meybodi did not focus on the young guard of his players, who continue to enjoy his support. Rather, he criticized inexplicable mistakes that allowed Hohkeppel to become hungry for goals and pose major problems for his team. He sees Hohkeppel as the clear favorite for direct promotion, which only increases the pain of the defeat.

Further results in the Middle Rhine Cup

While Deutz 05 failed in the first round, there were also other exciting encounters. The district league team FC Rheinsüd Köln prevailed in a thrilling penalty shootout against the regional league newcomers Blau-Weiß Köln. After a very dramatic game, the game ended 1-1 after 90 and 120 minutes. Jannik Eßer scored the opening goal for Rheinsüd before Ben König equalized for Blau-Weiß. In extra time, Rheinsüd player Fabian Hager received a yellow-red card, but the team fought on bravely.

Coach Stefan Krämer is keeping his fingers crossed that the next round could be against a strong opponent like Alemannia Aachen, Viktoria or Fortuna. Another remarkable victory was achieved by Borussia Lindenthal-Hohenlind, who won their game against FC Dynamo Erkelenz 4:1 (2:1). Terrence Suso and double goalscorer Joshua Hauschke were the protagonists of the game, which visibly thrilled coach Sascha Zinken.

Unfortunately, Germania Zündorf also had less reason to be happy, as they clearly lost 4-0 to the regional league team SV Eilendorf. The result shows once again how unpredictable the cup competition is and how quickly things can go in one direction or the other.
