Brand series in Wermelskirchen: Police investigated for attempted murder!
On the night of Saturday, June 7th, a dramatic fire series occurred in Wermelskirchen that keeps the city's inhabitants in suspense. According to information from Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , unknowns presumably set three apartment buildings on fire. The police have now started investigations into suspected attempted murder.
At 3:50 a.m., the first fire broke out in an apartment building in Friedrichstrasse, followed by another more serious incident in the upper Waldstrasse at 4:40 a.m., where the attic of a building with 16 residents completely burned out. Ten people were injured here, three of them seriously. The last fire occurred around 6:40 a.m. on Telegrafenstrasse, where the fire in the basement of another apartment building broke out, but without injured.
evacuation and use of the fire brigade
The fire brigade was quickly on site and evacuated a total of 40 residents. Many of them had to be saved over aerial ladders because the stairwells were heavily smoked. Ten injuries from the hospitals were released at the weekend, but the affected buildings are currently uninhabitable.
The suspicion is particularly explosive that the fires were specifically laid at night. Two men who were seen near the third place of the fire with an e-scooter have already been targeted by the investigators. The monitoring of the two suspects was paid great attention after witnesses described two dark -clad men at 4:15 a.m.: one with dark skin color and the other with a light skin color, both aged around 20 to 25 years.

In recent years, according to the Federal Criminal Police Office, a large number of cases have been registered between 2014 and 2024, which raises awareness of this type of crime. The incident in Wermelskirchen has again focused on arson, and the investigators have a lot to do. The residents hope for the fastest possible education and security in their quarters.
Further information is expected from the public prosecutor and the Cologne police, while the investigation into the cause of the fire and the perpetrators continues. Stay on it!
