Summer in Cologne – that doesn’t just mean outdoor swimming pools and barbecue parties, but also lots of exciting opportunities to discover your own city in a new way. The “Holiday in Cologne 2025” program, organized by the Akademie för uns kölsche Sproch and the SK Stiftung Kultur, aims to do exactly that. Especially in the first two weeks of the summer holidays, there are over 50 different excursions that go off the beaten track and illuminate the often unknown corners of the cathedral city. Kölner.de reports on a colorful spectrum of tours, such as “Cologne from above”, “Night on Melaten” or even a historical fire brigade tour.

A special highlight are the Büdchen tours, which introduce participants to stories from Cologne's past and its residents. These small kiosks, which function both as newspaper kiosks and as meeting points in the various Veedel, are inextricably linked with childhood memories - from cola bottles to fizzy candies and licorice snails. According to Cologne Tourism, the city now has around 1,000 booths, making it the city with the highest density of booths after the Ruhr area.

The excursions invite you to discover Cologne's charming and idiosyncratic sides. The tours also include guided walks, during which participants gain insights into the work of photographer Tata Ronkholz. Anyone interested in the city's architecture can take part in a discovery-packed bike tour that connects Cologne's green veins with urban corners. A very special boat trip is also offered that brings the stories of the Rhine, the city and its people to life. After the boat trip, participants can explore Cologne's Romanesque churches - a true experience for history and culture lovers!
